School Workshops
In-school music workshops aim to educate students on various aspects of music, from performance to theory. All workshops align with and introduce concepts from the Australian Curriculum. Music plays a vital role in a child's development, as it helps improve cognitive skills, enhances creativity, and promotes emotional expression. Learning music strengthens memory, sharpens focus, and boosts problem-solving abilities.
Discovering the Piano
This interactive workshop is designed for primary school children and introduces them to the key features of the piano. Kids will initially explore music using a giant piano mat, where they will learn about the notes and enjoy fun games. The session will also include a piano performance (on an actual piano), and children will have the opportunity to write and play a simple melody themselves. This hands-on experience aims to spark their interest in music and piano playing in a fun and engaging way.

Choir
Singing is a key part of music education, and choir offers a fun, accessible way for kids to begin their musical journey. Through singing, children build their musicality, vocal range, and ear for music, learning core elements like pitch, rhythm, and melody. Singing boosts confidence, self-expression, and language skills, while the choir programme also promotes teamwork and ensemble skills in a supportive, collaborative setting. With my experience in Queanbeyan Players productions and community choirs, including the ANU choir, I’m excited to share this passion with young singers. Choir is an ideal introduction to music—no instruments needed, so everyone can join in and enjoy!
Learning with Music
This workshop is designed in collaboration with schools and teachers to enhance learning through music. Teachers provide a specific area of focus, such as math, spelling or history, and the workshop transforms the lesson into a fun, interactive experience. Through activities like singing, dancing, clapping, and composing, students engage with the material in new ways, making it easier to memorise and understand key concepts. The goal is to make learning more enjoyable and effective using the power of music.
Music Theory Workshops
Led by a former ANU music theory lecturer, this workshop series offers an introduction to music theory, covering rhythm, melody, harmony, and notation. By learning theory, students can develop other skills such as pattern recognition and counting skills, which not only enhance their understanding of music but relate to other subjects as well. Tailored to different ages and abilities, these workshops use interactive exercises to build critical listening skills while exploring diverse music from various cultures and time periods.
